An opposition political party hoping to send volunteers to Iraq appealed Monday to its 300,000 members and accused the U.S.-led multinational effort of trying to "kill off the Muslims in Baghdad."

Subky Latiff, information officer for the Pan Malayan Islamic Party, said he was working on travel arrangements since most airlines have stopped flying to the Persian Gulf. While the government of Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad voted in favor of U.N. resolutions approving the use of force to evict Iraq from Kuwait, the fundamentalist PAS has distributed forms to its members in search of volunteers for humanitarian and non-combat roles to assist Iraq.

"We do not approve of Iraq's invasion, but the real motive of the United States is to kill off the Muslims in Baghdad and to destroy the city," Subky said.
