Twenty-two policemen bought a U.S. flag Sunday for Laurie Cummings, whose brother is a soldier in Saudi Arabia, after her own flag was stolen.

Cummings had flown the flag outside her home in the Los Angeles suburb of Valencia and had vowed to leave it there until her brother, Air Force Sgt. Michael Corbin, returned home."I wish the thief had taken my car or my stereo," Cummings said. "My daughter cried when we discovered the flag had been stolen. Flying the flag is about the only thing we can do."

Asked how she felt when the police presented her with a new flag, she said: "It definitely restored my faith."
