A $250,000 grant to help Job Training Partnership Act applicants improve their reading and mathematics skills so they can become eligible for job training and eventual job placement has been given to the Davis County JTPA office by the U.S. Department of Labor.
Richard Nelson, office executive director, said the office received the grant because of its continued success with the literacy training program."We started three years ago sending youth to Job Corps for literacy training. About 50 youth attend the Summer Youth Literacy Training Program and some have improved as much as two grade levels during a summer," he said.
Nelson thanked Gov. Norm Bangerter and Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, for their help in obtaining the grant.
