Katherine Kanios Karpakis, 83, died Wednesday January 16, in a Salt Lake City hospital of complications following a stroke which occured December 18, 1990.
Born October 15, 1907 in Rezes, Tripoli, Greece to Peter and Stamata Kanios. Married Chris Karpakis October 16, 1927 in Magna, Utah. He preceded her in death March 21, 1977. Katherine came to the United States at the age of 6 and has been a resident of Magna since that time. She is a devoted member of the Orthodox Church, member of Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society, member of Ladies Arcadian Society. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was devoted to her family and her life was spent in the service of her family and friends. She did beautiful hand work which she shared with all. Katherine enjoyed gardening, and took great pride in her beautiful flowers. We love you Mom, and Yiayia, may you sleep in heavenly peace.Survived by two sons and their wives, John and Pat Karpakis, Pete and Lorlee Karpakis, all of Magna; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Chris and wife Jan Karpakis, Kathy and Greg Roberts, Christine and Cory Mills, George and Scarlet Karpakis, Christopher Karpakis, Chuck and Goldie Karpakis, James and Candace Karpakis, Cory and Kathy Karpakis, Kelli Karpakis; 11 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Gus and Sam Kanios; son and daughter-in-law, Nick and Georgia Karpakis.
Funeral services will be held Saturday January 19, 1991 at 12 noon at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 279 South 300 West. Friends may call Friday evening 6-8 p.m. at MacKay Deseret Mortuary, 36 East 700 South. Prayer service will be held Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Mt. Olivet. Funeral directors, MacKay Deseret Morturary. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Cathedral.
