Iraqi authorities have ordered all foreign journalists to leave Baghdad as soon as possible, Amman Radio reported Saturday.

The state-owned radio said the Iraqi authorities assured journalists they would be allowed to return at a later date, but gave no details. The radio said the journalists were asked to go to Jordan in road convoys under Iraqi army protection.

The Iraqi decision to expel foreign journalists after three days of allied bombing will allow Baghdad to control all information coming out of the Iraqi capital about the war.

A day after the war began, Iraqi authorities began to censor all reports by foreign correspondents.
