A senior Iraqi diplomat said Saturday that Israel had already retaliated for Iraq's missile attacks by taking part in a raid on his country Saturday.

Abdul Razzak al-Hashemi, Iraq's ambassador to France, made the comment in an interview from Paris with CBS television news anchor Dan Rather in New York.He said Israeli planes had moved to bases in Saudi Arabia to take part in a raid on Iraq, which is under attack from a U.S.-led multinational force trying to expel Iraq from Kuwait.

The Israeli ambassador to the United States, Zelman Shoval, later told Rather the statement was "really ludicrous" and Israeli planes had not taken part in any raids on Iraq.
