Sen. Jake Garn will be skiing in Park City this weekend, although none of his colleagues will be joining him in this year's Senators' Ski Cup.
Instead, Garn, R-Utah, will race local politicians and corporate teams in the annual charity ski races to benefit Primary Children's Medical Center. Twenty senators and Vice President Dan Quayle canceled due to the war in the Persian Gulf.Garn said sponsors he contacted were content with the decision to proceed with races."
Menlove said 150 other participants will be participating in grudge matches to raise money for the hospital. "Actually, the sponsors have been extremely supportive. The bottom line of this event is to raise money."
Traditionally, the ski races are not a large spectator draw, Menlove said.
