Soldiers, hotel workers and others pray at dawn in the basement of a hotel in eastern Saudi Arabia that is being used as a bomb shelter. An incoming Scud missile was intercepted and destroyed by a Patriot missile a short time earlier. Meanwhile, preachers in Jordan prayed for Muslim solidarity with Saddam Hussein in his battle against allied forces in the Persian Gulf. "Saddam is waging a battle against the infidels, the unbelievers, on behalf of Islam, and will emerge victorious, God willing," the minister of Islamic affairs told worshipers in Amman."Iraq will achieve victory, God willing," one preacher said. "We smell the perfume of victory coming from Baghdad." Another preacher called on Jordanians to unite their ranks behind the Jordanian army and King Hussein in what he called the "battle to liberate Jerusalem."
