Two families who were scheduled to leave Brigham Young University's Jerusalem Center decided to stay because it was safer to remain than to travel.

Robert Taylor, assistant to BYU's president Rex E. Lee over the Jerusalem Center, said the families are equipped with, and trained to use, gas masks and other emergency materials. The two families, dependents of workers at the center, were scheduled to leave at 4 p.m. Israeli time Thursday.

"They have no other plans," Taylor said. The center is prepared to protect its occupants in most situations.
