Perhaps the item meriting top mention in leading off the roundup of prep basketball game summaries isn't necessarily one specific game but a region race instead.
Region 6, the 3A league comprised primarily of Salt Lake City member schools, has reached the halfway point in region competition.Do the standings look strange? To wit:
- Woods Cross started league play with two straight losses and now leads the region with a 5-2 record after its victory Friday night at Bountiful.
- Defending league champion Judge is understandably suffering with a squad that doesn't stack up to its talent-rich teams in recent seasons, and the Bulldogs are winless in seven league outings.
And thanks to some bizarre results Friday night - Tooele upsetting ranked Jordan on the road and Granite nipping former co-league leader Murray - there is a five-team logjam in second place. Bountiful, Granite, Jordan, Murray and Tooele all have identical 4-3 league marks.
Summaries of Friday's four Region 6 games, and many of the rest of the prep schedule, are below.
