The NCAA's Committee on Infractions Thursday announced sanctions against Miami University's men's basketball program resulting from an incident in the fall of 1988 involving former coach Jerry Peirson.

Peirson, who was relieved of his duties last summer by Miami President Paul G. Pearson and replaced by Joby Wright, admitted giving a grade of "A" to a member of his team, Karlton Clayborne, for a class he never attended. The "A" allowed Clayborne to remain eligible to play the last half of the 1988-89 season.
