A 27-year-old Orem man was arrested early Thursday following a brief chase and struggle with police officers, police spokesman Gerald Nielsen said.
The man had escaped earlier from the Timpanogos Mental Health Unit, where he had been admitted Wednesday on a court order. An Orem police officer noticed the man sitting in a car behind a store at 8th South and State streets at 4:45 a.m. When the officer approached the car he noticed blood stains on the car. The man turned the car on and left the scene. A brief pursuit followed to 13th South, where officers apprehended him.
The man, who sustained several cuts while climbing over the razor wire at the facility, was returned Thursday to the custody of the health center.
