At the Utah Legislature, somber lawmakers immediately addressed HCR16, a resolution of the Legislature and the governor expressing unanimous support for President Bush, Congress, and the U.S. military involved in Operation Desert Storm.

Lawmakers debated the bill Thursday morning. Several Democrats expressed concern about harsh language in the resolution, especially language that indicated lawmakers support the decision to use military force."It is not proper to presuppose all of us support the gulf policy," said Rep. David Jones, D-Salt Lake.

The agreement between Democratic and Republican leadership is that the vote on the resolution will be unanimous.

"While our boys are over there dying, we don't want to be debating whether this is a good action or a bad action," said House Minority Whip Rep. Kelly Atkinson, D-West Jordan. "We support them and want to express our sincere hope this will be speedy and swift."
