The Salt Lake Golden Eagles got tough on defense Wednesday night to down the the Kansas City Blades, 4-1, at Kemper Arena.
Marc Bureau got the Eagles started 5:57 into the first period when he took a pass from Rich Chernomaz and let a shot go from 10 feet out. Eagles' rookie Todd Harkins made it 2-0 just 42 seconds later when he beat Blades' goalie Wade Flaherty with a rebound shot. Eagles led 3-0 in the second period on Bureau's second goal.Ron Handy scored Kansas City's only goal at the 11:28 mark of the third period. Salt Lake's C.J. Young added an empty net goal with 38 seconds left to conclude the scoring.
The Eagles are now 23-19-3, Kansas City falls to 13-30-2. The two teams meet again Friday night in Kansas City.
