Want to get the latest report on ski conditions in Little Cottonwood Canyon? Tune to 530 on your AM radio dial.
According to Onno Weiringa, area manager at Alta, ski reports are now being sent over the airwaves.The AM station will broadcast 24 hours a day and can be heard within a radius of about three miles from the mouth of the canyon.
The ski condition-reporting station is a joint venture by Alta, Snowbird, the town of Alta, the Utah Department of Transportation and the Wasatch-Cache National Forest.
Information will include road conditions, current weather, a weather forecast and current ski conditions.
RESERVATIONS - The Utah Division of Parks and Recreation has begun handling its own reservation system again. After two years in private hands, the DRP has reacquired the responsibility.
Reservations for both individual and group sites must be made at least three days in advance and as many as 120 days.
The reservation phone number for those living in the Salt Lake City area is 322-3770 and for those outside the area it is 1-800-322-3770. The reservation office is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Visa and MasterCard are accepted. Personal checks must arrive at the division's North Temple office within 14 days after a reservation is made.
Mail-in reservations are also being accepted. Forms are available by writing Utah Division of Parks and Recreation, 1636 W. North Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah 84116.
A $5 nonrefundable fee is charged for each camp site.
SNOWBOARD CONTEST - The first annual Snowboard Powder 8 Contest will be held at Grand Targhee on Jan. 26.
Registration fees are $50 for a two-member team and includes registration, croakies and transportation to race site. Teams can register on race day.
