Cecilia Marie Mahoney, a 1987 graduate of Brigham Young University from Redlands, Calif., has been awarded a Fulbright-Hayes grant to study in Heidelberg, West Germany.

Mahoney, valedictorian of her class, graduated with a bachelor's degree in Greek and a minor in German. She received a 1987-88 full-tuition fellowship to pursue graduate work at BYU in humanities, classics and comparative literature.During her undergraduate studies, she was the recipient of several awards, including the Spencer W. Kimball Scholarship and Glenn and Olive Nielson Memorial Scholarship.

Established in 1946 by Congress, the Fulbright program awards grants on the basis of academic and professional qualifications, in addition to their ability and willingness to share ideas and experiences with people of diverse cultures.
