A Bountiful man originally facing life in prison for having sexual relations with a 13-year-old girl has been sentenced to serve six months in the Davis County Jail instead.

William R. Ford, 20, was charged with rape of a child, a first-degree felony that carries a prison term of five years to life, and distribution of drugs to a minor, a second-degree felony.In a plea negotiation, he pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse, a third-degree felony, and a Class A misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana.

Judge Rodney S. Page stayed the zero-to-five-year prison term on the unlawful sexual intercourse plea, ordering Ford to spend six months in jail with work release. The sentence on the marijuana possession will run concurrently.

He fined Ford $1,650, ordered him not to have any contact with the girl, and to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and possible treatment through Davis County Mental Health.
