Southern Utah University President Gerald R. Sherratt will address the subject of "The University Era" at Thursday's Convocation.
Sherratt will define what the recent change in status from college to university means for SUU - the possibilities it brings as well as the challenges it presents to faculty, staff, students and the community.A 1952 graduate of SUU (then called Branch Agricultural College), Sherratt has a unique viewpoint on university status. He completed his bachelor's degree at Utah State University in 1953 and earned a master's degree in education there in 1954. At the time, it was known as Utah Agricultural College, and as a student and later as an administrator, Sherratt witnessed and took part in that institution's transition to university status.
He returned to SUU in 1982 to become its 13th president.
The lecture will be held in the SUU auditorium at 11 a.m., and is open to the public.
