The University of Utah plans to sell a small piece of its property to a Federal Heights neighbor who is a member of the State Board of Regents.
The U. Institutional Council agreed Monday to sell a one-third acre section at the corner of North Campus Drive and Penrose Drive to regent Ian Cumming for $86,530.The purchase must still be approved by the regents.
U. Vice President for Administrative Services Walter Gnemi said maintenance of the property, in such close proximity to residential landscaping, poses problems for U. groundskeepers, who use large tractors for mowing. In addition, the U. The area will remain a greenspace after the sale, he said.
Gnemi said two independent appraisals were made to determine the value of the property, and Cumming agreed to pay higher appraisal.
