Lysle Welling Cotterell, 80, widow of Hugh C. Cotterell, died January 13, 1991 in a Salt Lake City nursing home following a brief illness.

She was a long time Red Cross and Veteran's Administration Hospital volunteer and Judge Memorial High School booster. Mrs. Cotterell was born December 30, 1910 in Fielding, Utah, Box Elder County to Milton Holmes Welling; former U.S. Congressman, Utah Secretary of State, and LDS Church leader, and Alice Sylvia Ward Welling. She was a graduate of LDS Business College, and studied music at McCune School of Music. She married Hugh Cummings Cotterell May 26, 1937. Mr. Cotterell died in 1978.Survivors include: her sons, Hugh Cummings Cotterell, Jr., Stephen Holmes Cotterell, both of Salt Lake City; her daughters, Mrs. Fred L. (Susan nee Holloway) Munoz, San Francisco, California; Mrs. John V. (Elizabeth) Dwyer, Seattle; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Irene W. Horsley; brother, John V. Welling; 11 nieces and nephews.

Funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday, 1 p.m., at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 1975 So. 2300 East. Vigil service with rosary will be held Wednesday, 7 p.m., at the Neil O'Donnell & Sons Mortuary, 372 East 100 South, where friends may call Wednesday, 6-7 p.m. Committal service, Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 4th Ave. and T Street. Family suggests contributions to the American Red Cross or Judge Memorial High School Development Fund.
