Fern Boyer Olson, age 77, long-time educator, died Janaury 13, 1991, in Mountain View Hospital following a short illness.

She was born in Springville, Utah April 21, 1913, to William Amberly and Sarah Edna Hutchings Boyer. She was reared in Springville and graduated from Springville High School. She attended Utah State University and graduated from Brigham Young University with a teaching degree and library certificate.She married Farrell Grant Olson, June 17, 1935 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died February 2, 1957. The couple lived in Heber City, Utah for six years, and except for a year-long government foreign service assignment in Iran, she spent her remaining years in Spanish Fork. Fern owned a dress shop, Fern's Fashions, and later managed another clothing store, Robert's, both on Spanish Fork's Main Street. She taught at Salem School and was a teacher and librarian at Spanish Fork Junior High and High Schools. An active member of the LDS Church she held leadership positions in the various stake and ward auxiliary organizations. She was a visiting teaching supervisor at the time of death. She was also involved in community affairs and was well known for her writing and book reviews. Member of the Aglaian Literary Club.

Survivors are duaghters, Mrs. Edward (Kathleen) Bradford, and Kristine Hill, West Valley City; six grandchildren; Blake and Kaylene Bradford, Ann Heiner, Jon Hoffman, Eric and Jessica Hill; and five great-grandchildren; one brother and two sisters, F. Richard Boyer, Rockford, Illinois; Mrs. Ralph (Helen) Worthen, Salt Lake City; and Mrs. Clair (Jean) Bowen, Springville. She was preceded in death by a brother, William A. Boyer, Jr.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 17, 1991 at 1 p.m. at the Spanish Fork West Stake Center, 360 North 650 West. Friends may call at Walker Mortuary, 187 South Main, Spanish Fork, Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and at the Stake Center one hour prior to services. Interment, Spanish Fork City Cemetery.
