A record 37 movies have been formally submitted for consideration as best foreign language film in the 63rd annual Academy Awards, to be presented March 25 at Los Angeles' Shrine Auditorium.

Chile has entered its first picture ever, and Egypt, which has not submitted a film for consideration since 1981, is back in the race.Among nations competing for the prize are Argentina, Austria, Bulgaria, Cuba, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, People's Republic of China, Romania, Switzerland, Taiwan, The Soviet Union and Yugoslavia.
