New Murray residents have been given a break on their utility deposits.
On the recommendation of Murray Mayor Lynn Pett, the City Council passed an ordinance amending the city's utility customer-service bill. It had required a deposit from renters be paid in full within 30 days."I've had so many calls from young people trying to move into apartments and are hit with so many different deposits from so many different agencies," Pett said. "They felt it was a burden to pay the full deposit all at once."
They don't have to now.
The new ordinance gives customers 30 days to pay half of the deposit and 60 days to pay the remainder.
