Identities have been released of two Utah County youths who died of gunshot wounds suffered Friday afternoon in Spanish Fork Canyon.
Tyler Evans, 16, Provo, and Clinton Taylor, 14, Spanish Fork, were found near their vehicle by Flint Majers, a passerby, at approximately 2:45 p.m near the Thistle debris basin area. A .22-caliber rifle was found nearby. The ambulance carrying both youths from the canyon to Provo's Utah Valley Regional Medical Center collided with a pickup truck at approximately 795 E. 800 North, Spanish Fork. They were transferred to another ambulance. Both youths died Friday night during treatment for gunshot wounds to the head.
Despite speculation that the youths were carrying out a suicide pact, Sheriff's Department officials have not ruled out the possibility that one of the youths shot the other before turning the gun on himself, or even that they were victims of homicide, said Lt. Craig Turner.
