The Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History has organized an exhibition of art created by the peoples of Indonesia's outer islands that has opened at the Houston Museum of Natural Science.

The show is "Beyond the Java Sea: Art of Indonesia's Outer Islands," and it's a collection of more than 200 works ranging from large stone sculptures to intricate gold jewelry from the royal courts - items "selected for their beauty, richness and historical importance," says the museum.After it closes in Houston March 3, the exhibition will be shown in Washington, D.C., at the National Museum of Natural History, April 19-July 15, 1991, and then at the M.H. de Young Memorial Museum in San Francisco, Sept. 28, 1991-Jan. 5, 1992.
