The relationship between theater and society will be explored in the fourth "The Greeks and the Romans" lecture at the University of Utah Thursday, Jan. 17, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium. The lecture is free and open to the public.
"Theater and Society: Roman Comedy and Roman Values" will be surveyed by James T. Svendsen, U. associate professor of languages and literature, who created the lecture series as part of his yearlong honorary appointment as university professor.The lectures are jointly sponsored by the Liberal Education Program and the Department of Languages and Literature. Remaining topics in the series are:
- Jan. 31: "Roman Mystery Religions and Early Christianity," William H. Hess, U. professor of languages and literature.
- Feb. 28: "Roman Women: Hearing the Voice of the Silent," Mary-Kay Gamel, professor of classics, University of California at Santa Cruz.
