A Bountiful woman who pleaded guilty to embezzling money from a Centerville steel firm where she worked in the accounting department was sentenced to prison Tuesday and ordered to pay more than $100,000 restitution.

Carol G. Jones, 39, 820 E. Fifth South, was given a one- to 15-year prison term and ordered to pay Syro Steel $110,023.86 in restitution. Jones was charged with five counts of forgery and theft by deception and pleaded guilty to a single second-degree felony charge in a plea negotiation. She worked as a bookkeeper and in accounts payable at the firm from 1977 to 1987, according to court rec-ords. A Syro Steel attorney told 2nd District Judge Douglas L Cornaby Tuesday that his firm has a civil judgment against Jones, who has since declared bankruptcy, totaling $110,000 and asked that it be imposed as part of her sentence.

Although ordering Jones to repay the money, Cornaby declined to impose the civil judgment, which calls for escalating monthly payments from $50 the first year up to $500 monthly in 10 years, saying it is unrealistic.
