The Utah School Board Association presented awards Friday to newspapers for their efforts to promote understanding of the issues facing the Utah education system.
The Deseret News Utah County Bureau received a distinguished service award "for high journalistic attainment in reporting and interpreting education to the public." The Deseret News bureau was nominated for the award by the Alpine School District.A similar award was also presented to the Summit County Bee. The awards were presented by USBA Executive Director Winston Gleave at Friday's banquet during the association's annual convention.
In other awards presented at the banquet, three urban and three rural teachers received recognition for outstanding work in the classroom after being nominated by their local school boards.
Five school board members from around the state were also honored for having served 12 years on their school boards.
