Clarence Henry Probst, son of John Ulrich and Susanna Gertsch Probst, age 97, died January 8, 1991.

He was born in Midway, Utah, November 6, 1893. Married Mary Christensen of Salina, Utah March 6, 1918 in the Manti LDS Temple. She died December 21, 1970. He married Verna Berg of Murray, Utah June 8, 1973 in the Provo LDS Temple. Children from his first marriage, son, Clarence C. and daughter, Shirley Allred both preceded him in death.After serving in World War I, he graduated from Brigham Young University where he was First Clarinetist in the band. His years as a teacher and principal influenced his many students who remember him for the love of music he instilled in them. He earned the title of Midway's Music Man for the operettas he produced and for the Swiss Chorus which he organized and directed for 23 years. In his church he was choir leader for many years, and music director for the Stake. He also served as Sunday School superintendent and taught Special Interest groups. Midway honored him as the Citizen of the Year in 1966.

He is survived by his wife, Verna; daughter-in-law, Maxine; eight grandchildren, Joan and Rae Johnston, Missoula, Montana; Jill and Robert McCune, Logan; Vickie Allred, Salt Lake City; Pam and Alan Giles, Jerry and Julie Probst, Midway; Jim and Annette Probst, Heber City; Susan and Clark Graham, Nancy and David Parma, Boulder, Colorado. The following brothers and sisters, Ruby P. Rex, Salt Lake City, Geneva Cook, Cedar Valley; Laura and Verne Nelson, Leah and Arthur Godfrey, Provo; Owen and Rose Probst and David and Vivienne Probst, Midway. 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Four brothers preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 12, 1991, 1 p.m., in the Midway Fourth Ward Chapel, 200 South 250 East. Friends may call Friday 6-8 p.m., Olpin Mortuary, 288 North Main, Heber City and at the church one hour prior to services. Interment, Midway Cemetery.
