A previously unknown painting by Vincent van Gogh has been found hanging on a wall in a suburban Milwaukee home.

The painting by the 19th century Impressionist, an oil-on-canvas of flowers in a vase signed only with a "V" in the corner, has been authenticated by experts at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Chicago Tribune reported Wednesday. The painting was discovered by John Kuhn, a real estate agent who works part time as an art prospector for Leslie Hindman Auctioneers in Chicago. Kuhn said he spotted the work while examining antique furniture at the Wisconsin home.

Leslie Hindman, owner of the auction house, said the retired, middle-aged couple who have the painting do not want to be identified.
