An Orem man charged with killing a 7 1/2-month-old boy in December has been found competent to stand trial following mental examinations to determine his competency.

Thomas Michael Soper, 47, will face trial July 6 on charges of second-degree murder in the death of Chad Roy Talk, son of Roy and Lavay Talk, 116 E. 10th South, Orem. The child died Dec. 10 of head injuries suffered two days earlier at a baby sitter's home.Police say the sitter, Soper's wife, left the child with the defendant while she went shopping.
