The Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration will present its 1990 Robert H. Richards Award to University of Utah metallurgist Jan D. Miller in recognition of his varied innovations in mineral processing technology.

Miller is one of America's most widely honored metallurgists, with more than 150 technical publications and 17 patents to his credit.Miller is an honors graduate of Pennsylvania State University. He earned his master's and Ph.D. degrees in metallurgical engineering at the Colorado School of Mines. He was recognized with research awards this past year from the Society of Mining Engineers and The Metallurgical Society.
