Several symposium events will precede the Utah Opera Company's performances of Mozart's "Cosi fan tutte," scheduled at the Capitol Theater on Jan. 19, 21, 23, 25 and 27.
On Thursday, Jan. 10, the Utah Opera Guild will sponsor Walter Rudolph, station manager for KBYU-FM, speaking on "Cosi fan tutte: a Bedroom Farce in the Living Room." The lecture will be held in the Capitol Theater, basement Studio 2, at 7:30 p.m. Rudolph holds a master's degree in musicology, has sung with Utah Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago and Central City Opera, and has taught opera history at Brigham Young University. He promises plenty of fun for all. Guild members may attend free, others must pay $3.Guest artists of "Cosi fan tutte" will be featured at a get-acquainted luncheon sponsored by the Opera Guild on Friday, Jan. 11, at the Embassy Suites Hotel. A social hour will begin at 11:30 a.m., with lunch at noon. Besides introducing the artists, the luncheon will feature a fashion show by Crossroad Plaza Casual Corner. Also on the docket is a "Cosi" symposium sponsored by the Ogden Guild on Sunday, Jan. 13 at 6 p.m. in the Eccles Art Center in Ogden. "OperaBites" will take place Friday, Jan. 18, at 12:15 p.m. in the Capitol Theatre. For further information on the latter events, see Sunday's Deseret News.
