Larson-Davis Inc., a company that develops, manufactures and markets advanced precision acoustical measurement and analysis instruments, has been awarded a $500,000 contract by the Taiwanese government's Environmental Protection Agency to monitor vehicle noise levels.

Brian Larson, company president, said phase one has the potential to be a multimillion-dollar project, with subsequent phases being awarded later.Vehicle noise monitoring is an entirely new vertical market that has just opened up on the acoustical measurement device industry. "The vehicle noise emission level restrictions implemented in Taiwan could have global effect," Larson said.

"Many densely populated areas around the world are as concerned about noise pollution as they are about air pollution. Noise pollution not only affects your hearing but affects the nervous system and causes irritation, stress and emotional disorders, which can lead to physical disorders, also," Larson said.
