Scott Kelly, claims manager for Intermountain Health Care Inc., has been elected president of the Utah Self-Insurers' Association, an organization of companies preferring to be self-insured for workers' compensation payments.

Elected vice president was J. Douglas Huff, personnel manager for Pacific States Iron Pipe Co., and serving as secretary/treasurer is Sheila Sorensen, workers' compensation manager for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.Floyd Jensen, senior counsel for litigation for US WEST Communications Inc., and Lynn Marlor, vice president for human resources of Baker Hughes Pump Group, were elected to the board of directors. David McConkie of the law firm of Kirton, McConkie & Poelman, is the association's legal counsel.

The new officers represent 18 major Utah and national companies belonging to the association. They also assist other major companies that have self-insurance programs, but aren't members.

"Many companies in Utah believe that self-insurance is the most cost-effective way to control high costs of liability coverage. We plan to increase our membership by supplying our members with improved claim management information and training that will help them administer their coverage plans," Kelly said.
