A charge of first-degree murder was lodged Tuesday against a man who had promised to lead two police officers to a drug house but instead opened fire, killing one officer and critically wounding a second.

Alexis Green, 23, also known as Tony Brown, was taken into custody Monday night about six hours after the two plainclothes officers were shot in their unmarked car in the parking lot of a grocery store.Green had been the target of a manhunt that spanned much of the South Side.

Deputy Superintendent Dennis Wodnicki said numerous tips helped police track Green, who was charged Tuesday with first-degree murder, attempted murder, armed robbery and possession of a controlled substance.
