Israel deported four Palestinians accused of membership in the outlawed Islamic Fundamentalist Movement Tuesday, a day after they dropped their appeal in the Supreme Court.

The four residents of the Gaza Strip were taken to Zumraya, Lebanon, just north of Israel's self-declared "security zone" in southern Lebanon, an army spokesman said. The men received their deportation orders Dec. 15 after they were arrested in a crackdown on members and supporters of the outlawed Islamic organization, known by its Arabic acronym, Hamas. The expulsions bring to 62 the number of Palestinians from the Israeli-occupied territories deported since the start of the 3-year-old Palestinian uprising, and it was Israel's first deportation this year.
