Utah weather highlights:

Dec. 13-14: Fast-moving cold front blasted western half of state with heavy snow. Gusty winds to 40 mph and thunder/lightning, a rare occurrence in December. Snowfall totals: Holladay, 8-9 inches; Spanish Fork & Ogden, 6 inches; Snowbird, 20 inches.

Dec. 18-21: Monster winter storm plagued various portions of Utah, first, strong south winds followed by heavy snow, arctic-like temperatures and strong canyon winds. Snowfall totals: Provo (BYU), 15 inches; Cedar City, 9-12 inches; Heber City, 32 inches; Centerville, 9 inches; Alta, 32 inches. South winds blew to 66 mph at Cedar City, and canyon winds gusted to 59 mph at Hill Air Force Base.

Dec. 22-25: "Arctic Express" arrived, setting cold temperature records statewide. Several Utah stations recorded their coldest temperature ever; Milford, -35 degrees; Nephi, -21 degrees. Frozen pipes galore and lots of dead cars were the end result.

Dec. 28-31: Caboose of the Arctic Express rolls in. Also some snow; Spanish Fork, 6 inches; Springville, 5 inches; Nephi, 4 inches, followed by biting cold weather Dec. 30: Alta, -20 degrees, Delta, -23 degrees, and Heber City, -26 degrees.
