Mark Stoddard, an administrator at Gunnison Valley Hospital in Gunnison, Sanpete County, was recently named president-elect of the Utah Hospitals Association. He says the position will allow him to understand the total picture of the 53 association hospitals throughout the state. About 23 of them are considered to be rural hospitals, located outside the Wasatch Front.
Stoddard said the association provides a forum for administrators to identify issues and talk of solutions, "an opportunity to glean information." The association developed a rural council last year, which identified and discussed problems of small hospitals, and Stoddard was chairman of the group.
