Ogden-based United Savings Bank and its subsidiary, Western Mortgage Loan Corp., have closed more loans insured by the Department of Housing and Urban Development than any other lender.

Richard P. Bell, manager of HUD's Salt Lake office, said HUD insured a total of 12,961 loans in fiscal 1990 and of that number, Western Mortgage closed 847 loans and the bank closed 532. The 1,379 total is 10.6 percent of all loans.Mary Ann Garner, Western Mortgage senior vice president, said, "HUD loans are targeted to first-time homebuyers and those with moderate incomes. We have used HUD's programs along with our Home-buyer's Handbook and prequali-fication services to make home ownership easier."
