Salt Lake City is accepting applications for a new police chief.
"I'd like to have the new chief on board at least by the end of July," Mayor Palmer DePaulis said.Chief Bud Willoughby will retire June 6. He is under long-term medical disability after suffering heart problems.
DePaulis said he will appoint a citizen group to help in the selection process for Willoughby's successor. The opening will be advertised through the national police chief's organization. The mayor said officials within the Salt Lake department are also encouraged to apply for the job.
DePaulis said the city is looking for a good administrator who can instill a high morale in the police force as well as provide good public relations for the community.
