Three maintenance supervisors with the Utah Department of Transportation have been placed on administrative leave while department officials investigate allegations of drinking on the job, a spokesman said.

About a dozen employees were involved in a party Dec. 21 involving "small amounts" of alcohol, said spokesman Kim Morris. They were called out to plow snow and one of the trucks ran off a road in Salt Lake City. But Morris said so far no evidence indicates the mishap resulted from the drinking and that the operator followed procedure by steering the plow into a snowbank. "Under other circumstances (the operator) would have received commendations."

UDOT policy prohibits drinking on the job, and employees found violating the policy face reprimands, suspensions or termination.
