Utah soldiers in Saudi Arabia report that mail is traveling much better than it was in the early days of Operation Desert Shield. But some care packages sent by special military transit appear to be hopelessly lost, according to Utahns in the Middle East who have heard special packages would be on their way.

One lost parcel includes golf clubs sent by Gov. Norm Bangerter, according to the wife of a National Guard soldier whose unit is also looking for packages assembled by a Boy Scout for his Eagle project.Nita Wright said dependence on the mail system has taken a back seat in some respects because access to telephones has made it easier for families and soldiers to stay in touch.
