Bertha Ann Nielson Newton, age 89, passed away January 4, 1991 at her home in West Valley City.

Born February 7, 1901 in Hunter, Utah, daughter of John Rasmus and Hannah Deakin Nielson. Married James H. Newton October 3, 1919 in Farmington, Utah; marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She was a member of Garden Club and Wool Growers Club. She was an accomplished seamstress and cook and an owner of Newton's Catering Service. Active member of the LDS Church serving in various capacities over the years: Relief Society president, counselor and stake board member. Worked as an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple for 23 years. Served an LDS Mission with her husband in England, 1962-63. She idolized and loved her family and valued her many friends.Survived by husband, James H. Newton; one daughter, Jayne Ann and husband, Bryant Holman; three grandchildren, Michael James and wife, Karen Holman; Gerry Bryant and wife, Valerie Holman; Ann Marie Holman; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by son, Sherm J. Newton, 1933; brothers and sisters, J. Willard Nielson, Sr., Faye Morgan, Fern Thomas, Lucille Sutton.

Funeral services will be held Monday, 12 noon, at the Salt Lake Hunter Stake Center, 3737 South 5600 West. Friends may call Sunday, 5-7 p.m. at the McDougal Golden Rule Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood, and Monday, at the church, 11-11:45 p.m. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
