Ethel Irene Smart Simmons, 77, our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, passed away Thursday, January 3, 1991 at Clearfield Care West, of complications following a stroke.

She was born September 21, 1913 in Union, Utah, daughter of Franklin Arley and Harriet S. Flowers Smart. She married Vivan T. Simmons May 11, 1932 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He passed away March 11, 1989. She was reared and educated in Union, Utah and has lived in Davis County for the past 48 years. She attended Jordan High School. She was an active member of the Syracuse 5th LDS Ward and served as a Primary teacher, taught Spiritual Living and Cultural Refinement, and was a visiting teacher for many years. She and her husband served a mission to Wallace, North Carolina, where they touched many hearts. While living in Kaysville, she was a member of the Kaysville 7th LDS Ward and served in the Relief Society presidency as secretary. She worked for the government during World War II and the Korean War. She loved flowers and gardening. She was a member of the Kaysville Nighttime Neighbors Club. She was a devoted wife and mother and loving neighbor and friend to all.Survived by two sons, four daughters and spouses, V. Donald and LaFay Simmons; Marian I. and Jon Wanner, all Layton; Elmer L. and Joanne Simmons, Kaysville; Carolyn E. Martin, Roy; Eileen and Mark J. Taylor, Peterson; Debra and Gordon Larsen, West Point; 24 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; three brothers and one sister, Ralph A. Smart, Elmer B. Smart, Irvin H. Smart, Martha Clyde, all of Union, Utah. She was preceded in death by her brother, Franklin.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Monday, January 7, 1991, at the Syracuse 5th LDS Ward, 1625 South 1100 West. Friends may call Sunday, from 6-8 p.m. at Lindquist's Clearfield Mortuary, 1050 South State and Monday, at the church from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery.
