James Elton Maynard, age 72, returned home to his Heavenly Father on January 2, 1991 of a long suffered illness.

Born March 20, 1918 to Vernon John and Gertrude Reynolds Maynard in Riverton. Married Carrie Myres, March 23, 1946; their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Active member of the LDS Church, a High Priest in the Riverton 1st Ward. He served six years in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. Retired from Kennecott Copper and also worked for the U.S. Smelting. He was a friend to anyone he met and will be missed by all who knew him.Survived by his wife, Riverton; his daughter Linda and her husband Allen Stewart, Kearns; a son, Raymond and his wife Wendy, Riverton; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Grant, Dale and Louella Turner all of Riverton; Virginia Carson and Dorothy Cheirrett, both of Pleasant Grove; Weston, Cokeville, Wyo.; Lorraine Adams, Orem; Gloria Christeanson, Ogden. Preceded in death by a brother Arlin, Tallahassee, Florida.

Funeral services will be held Monday, 11 a.m. in the Riverton 1st Ward, 1855 West 13400 South. Friends may call Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Broomhead Funeral Home, 12600 South 2200 West, also one hour prior at the church. Interment, in the Riverton Cemetery.
