After a convincing win over NAIA Western Washington Thursday night at the Dee Events Center, the Weber State Wildcats hit the road for a rematch with the Matadors of Cal-State Northridge, whom they beat 69-61 on Dec. 29 in Ogden. The game tips off at 9 p.m. (MST).
Northridge is now 3-8 overall after beating Canisius Wednesday night. CSUN is 0-8 on the road, but 3-0 at home in 1990-91.With the win in Ogden last Saturday the Wildcats now hold an 8-0 advantage over Northridge, but all eight games have been played in Ogden.
Kyle Kerlegan (6-1, guard) continues to lead CSUN in scoring with a 13.2 points per game average. The Wildcats held him to just six points, both three-point shots last week. He left the game in Ogden early in the second half after sustaining a nose injury. Shelton Boykin (6-5, forward), Keith Gibbs (6-5, forward), Todd Bowser (6-7, center), Andre Chevalier (6-0, guard) and Kerlegan will likely start for Northridge.
The Wildcats are now 3-6 for the season.
Anthony McGowan (6-8, 205 Sr. F/C) underwent surgery Wednesday to relieve a severely pinched nerve in his neck. McGowan will miss the rest of the 1990-91 season. He appeared in the first four games of the season and was averaging 7.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. The coaching staff will apply for a medical red-shirt season in hopes of having McGowan back next season.
Chris Metke (6-8, 235 Sr. C/F) started at center against Cal State-Northridge, replacing Mike Pomeroy (6-10, 235 Sr.) in the middle. Metke responded with six points, three rebounds and two assists in 15 minutes of playing time.
Forwards Aaron Bell and David Baldwin and guards Tony Nicholas and Jason Joe are expected to start along with Metke.
