A beefy 26-year-old man who posed as a girl to win a slot on a high school cheerleading squad pleaded guilty Thursday to criminal impersonation.

Charles Daugherty could be sentenced to up to two years in prison Feb. 4, but likely will be placed on probation on condition he undergoes mental health counseling, District Judge Richard Hall said.Daugherty entered his guilty plea as part of a plea-bargain at the start of a preliminary hearing. In exchange for his plea, four counts of forging high school admission documents were dropped.

Daugherty called himself Cheyenn Weatherly, a 17-year-old junior class transfer from out of state, when he enrolled last September at Coronado High School.
