It was a typical Washington meeting - a Senate staffer, a new congressman and a lobbyist - but for Lauri Snow Turner, press secretary to Sen. Jake Garn, R-Utah, it was one big jolt.
The congressman, Rep. Jim Moran, D-Va., apparently crashed into the back of Turner's car, forcing it into another car on Washington's Southwest Freeway.A passing car stopped and another motorist -who turned out to be a lobbyist for the American Defense Institute - jumped out. He rushed to the aid of - naturally - the congressman, offering to drive him to the office.
Moran, until this week mayor of nearby Alexandria, shrugged off the lobbyist's offer and exchanged the usual insurance data with Turner.
Turner was shaken but unhurt. Her car will need a new rear bumper. Moran, who was on his way to be sworn in for his first term in Congress, will need a new front end on his 10-year-old Toyota.
