Deputy State Treasurer Lorin P. Nielsen, administrator of Utah's unclaimed property program, has been named president of the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators at the organization's annual meeting.
"Unclaimed property is growing in Utah and nationally with many significant issues to be addressed in the coming year," said state Treasurer Ed Alter. "Utah will benefit from this action."Nielsen, who has been deputy state treasurer since February 1987, also has served as the association's first vice president, a regional vice president, and chairman of the federal legislation committee.
The unclaimed property program attempts to locate the owners of a wide variety of items for both government and businesses, including the contents of safety deposit boxes, overpaid taxes, and insurance proceeds.
